The other day I was at Goodwill. (How many sentences have I started with that phrase?) They have put out all their holiday merchandise and I stumbled across this little Christmas gourd for $2:
Whoever painted this gourd did it with a lot of love, and it had a little Christmas sheep and a big fat Santa Claus. Alas, it was not my style. But the gourd itself was in great shape and I thought I heard it begging me for an autumn transformation!
A little paint, a cute grosgrain ribbon, and my new rub-on letters. Not bad for a $2 thrift store find!

I LOVE it!!
Very cute! The sheep is cute, but your rehab is much better! Really, you could repaint it for any season!
I have a killer gourd I bought at a flea market several years ago. It's long and skinny and "J" shaped. It's a santa face, and the beard goes down around the hooked part of the "J."
That turned out great. I love how you can take something that is blah and turn it into something fabulous.
How do you think of this?? I would have walked right past that at Goodwill, but your transformation is simply amazing (and simple...my style).
SO cute! I have not really understood how the gourd would fit into my decorating style, but I would totally put that guy on my table! Good eye!
I never knew I NEEDED a gourd until now!
PRECIOUS
That is super cute!! I'll have to add some gourds to my fall decorations now! =)

Your first sentence was funny! I'm right there with you!
For you to see something besides an ugly gourd is so cool. I would have looked at that, laughed to myself and kept on walking. Another incredible transformation!
I soooo wish I had your creativity. I would have walked right by it in the store too. I love the polkadot ribbon and letters!
I love the gourd! I have been working on rusting things at home with household products. Have you ever done it? It is tons of fun!

gotta love what you can get in a thrift store, can you imagine the price in a high end boutique for that little beauty?
Sarah
At first I thought you were showing off the "before" version and thought, "Well, to each his own." And then I had to (repent) when I saw the "after"...hee-hee. That is a glorious make-over. Way to go. : )
very cute idea! I'm going to have to find a gourd or two for my fall display :)
My daughters are like you....they can look at something and imagine it a different way...then transform it. I'm not that good at that. Love this gourd.
That gourd is fantastic!! Great find for Goodwill. My Goodwill is so lame lately.
I agree...it's precious! LOVE the ribbon, it just makes it! I really like all of your fall decor in the previous post. I heart fall!
I'm catching up on some blog reading this morning and saw this project. So fun! Your autumn gourd is so cute and subtle...quite a transformation from the original!
