Adventures of the Yurt-Dwellers

I am back from my adventures in the wild!  Thanks to all of you for your well-wishes.  We had a great time and I have to say, if you're going to go camping and your not really a camping kind of girl, the yurt is a great way to go.  Although, a few words of wisdom: pregnancy + multiple overnight bathroom breaks + utter darkness + no indoor plumbing = peeing on your own foot.  Just saying.  Other than that, we had a great time!  Check out some of my photos:

Since we are all so into making spaces cozy, I thought you would appreciate this photo because the yurt was rather cozy...for a pseudo-tent.  It had a bunk bed, a few couches, a microwave, even a quaint little propane stove that kicked on throughout the night when the temperature dipped below 65 degrees.  It even had hardwood floors!

And really, how bad could any vacation be when you take your kid to the park...and the park looks like this?  Here are Brent and Nina in a little mountain town called Ouray.

We hopped all over the state, and this photo is the only one we managed to snap of all three of us, on an overcast day in Telluride.  Well, all four of us if you count my growing belly!

I am glad to be back!  Tomorrow I can't wait to show you a few of the little treasures I picked up on our travels...you guys didn't think we would drive through a few dozen cute little mountain towns and not stop at the local antique shops, did you?  :)

I'm not much for roughing it. I'd rather have a cabin than a tent. Love the Yurt though. That I would like. The views on your trip were breathtaking!! So beautiful.

Welcome home!!!

Looking forward to seeing your treasures that you brought home. It looks like you had a lot of fun. I can't even imaging living in a place where there are mountains like that! You know what Ohio is like:)

Welcome back! Glad you all had a great memory-making time! I remember our last family vacation before our second child was born; it was special, knowing that things wouldn't ever be quite the same again...made me appreciate all the little stuff more.

You look great! :)

Wow -- looks absolutely beautiful there!! The yurt sounds doable -- well, except for no plumbing maybe. Can't wait to see your finds! Have a good week.

I am glad you made it back okay. I have never seen a Yurt before, but I have to admit that now I want to find one to camp in too. I imagine that they are mostly a northern thing. It looks very nice on the inside and the scenery was beautiful.

Looks like everyone had a great time. I wonder if they have those Yurts here in Texas.

Oh...I really wanted to see inside..Thanks! *smiles* I wondered how that little thing would be set up...

I could only imagine the potty breaks.

Can't wait to see what you got.

That is my kind of roughing it. I would not have minded staying there at all. Can't wait to see what you found up there.

I actually really like to go camping, though the yurt seems like the way to go with small kids! Sorry about your foot :). Supposed to be sterile though, right?!! hehe Glad your family had a nice trip, and can't wait to see what you got antiquing!

Blessings,
Stacey

I am impressed that you would go camping when you were pregnant, let alone no indoor plumbing and very dark bathroom breaks!
Looks like you guys had a great time. We have some friends who have done the whole yurt thing and they loved it as well. Maybe I will have to try it out. Maybe :)

I am cracking up! So funny about the midnight potty runs!!! I'm not a camper, but I think I could handle this yurt thingy(for the sake of the kiddos fun, of course!!!) Can't wait to see more pics and your treasures! Missed you in blogland while you were away! xo

I was looking at those myself when reserving our camping spot..they were all taken though. It seems many of the State Parks are doing the Yurt thing. They are not much more than what you pay for a reg. camping spot. Looks like a lot of fun and I am choppin at the bit to see wht you got while out and about. Share it sista. cherry

I'm glad you had such a great time! I am so jealous that you were in Ouray!!! When I moved to Colorado, I picked up several Colorado visitor's & travel guides to help me explore my new home. Ouray was one of the towns I bookmarked that I really wanted to visit. I never made it before my hubby whisked me away to Texas. Maybe someday!
Which was your favorite little town that you visited?

Well that Yurt doesn't look to bad. I'm still not wanting to go camping...but if I had to...that would be the way to go!

Looks like y'all had fun!!! Cute Yurt and that park looked fabulous!! Glad it was a great time!!

Hi:
I came across your blog via Sanctuary Arts. I went to Ouray when I was 8 years old and loved it. My family drove out from Michigan all through the rockies, and it was one of the best trips ever! We swam in the hot springs pool and went to Box Canyon falls. Thanks for bringing back some great memories!

Yurt camping sounds like fun. If you ever watch Design Inc., Sarah Richardson decorated a Yurt on one of the episodes. It was so cool!
Here is a link that probably won't be live, LOL!
