I didn't set out to get the master bedroom done first. Usually that's the last room to get attention, because everything else seems more important! But somehow, things just came together this time, and the master bedroom is done.
Here is the "before," a photo on my husband's cell phone from when we were first touring the house:
I love the paint color, and it was so nice just to unpack my boxes and start hanging things on the walls. Hooray for not painting! We already had the curtains and rug and everything else, so I just needed some time to arrange and place things how I wanted them.
My husband hung the curtains, which pleased him to no end. (OK, not really. He says the two things he hates most are hanging curtains and painting walls. Not so lucky for him, given who he is married to.)
But given the emotional state I've been in lately, it's nice to have the master bedroom done. It's a respite at the end of the day, and very cozy with the curtains drawn at night.
Next week I'll show you the kitchen, where I've been working my little hiney off!

Absolutely beautiful! I could see myself relaxing there. So happy for you.
Gorgeous! You've put that room together very nicely. Glad you've prepared your "sanctuary". It's so important. Thanks so much for sharing.
Your master bedroom looks fabulous! I especially love the wood floors and windows! You have such great taste!
Beautiful! It's so wonderful that you were able to use things you already had to make such a wonderful space. I can't wait to see what you did to the kitchen!
It's absolutely lovely! You definitely picked an amazing rental!!!!!!!
Ahhhhhhh! I love it! And don't even get me started on those fabulous built-ins!
Looks very nice! I love that little bench at the end of your bed! :0)
I love it!! So pretty.
I think having your own space defined will help re-charge you as you go forward with the rest of the house.
That's a really great idea. And yea! for rooms we don't have to paint!
Carrie: Your bedroom is beautiful! What is it with men and curtain rods? My husband cannot stand hanging them! Have a great weekend! Tricia

I love your bedroom! But I do have a question :) Where did you get your fabric for your curtains? I would love to have some like them!
I am jealous of your bedroom!!!
My husband will paint and hang curtains all day long to avoid light fixtures and ceiling fan installation. ha! the room looks wonderful.
Oh, that is so VERY pretty!!!
Great job!
I LOVE your room!!! And I have the same question as above...where did you find the fabric for your curtains...they would be perfect in our master, and I'm slowly starting to redo....love them!!!
WOW!! Your master bedroom is gorgeous! It looks like something out of a magazine! I wish you the best in Cali!
It's gorgeous!!! I love the bookcases flanking the windows!! I also love the curtains around the bookcases! Looks so warm and cozy!! :)
It's gorgeous! I really need to redo my bedroom. First we need to take out a sliding glass door so that's holding me up!
Your room looks very cozy...what a great place to rest your head :)
Beautiful! I love everything about it! I think of you often as I am in a similar position: moving due to my hubbies job, away from the life we know and our dream home. I am so scared that we're making the wrong choice, and I can feel the ulcers churning in my stomach lol. Nice to know that there are others out there feeling the same uncertainties, but taking the plunge and making the move with their families. I wish you and your family a wonderful new adventure!
It looks wonderful! I'm jealous that you have such a big master bedroom. Mine is so small!
Thanks everyone! The toile I used for my curtains was from Calico Corners, and it was called "Michilene." I hope I have the spelling right. I bought it two years ago and it was on clearance then, so don't know if it's still available. Let me know if you find it!
What a beautiful room! And I think its great that the Master Bedroom was the first to be completed.
Carrie, it turned out beautiful! I love all the lamps, it must be so cozy to read a book and relax! Great job!
Beautiful and cozy!! Love it!

It's beautiful! I love it. Such a peaceful retreat.
Oh my, I can't believe how wonderful the bedroom looks in 3 short weeks! You go girl!
I am so sorry for your homesickness. :( I can't imagine what it would be like to be a transplant. I am sure it will get better and better from here on out!
Love the family picture by the way! What a sweet little family you have. :)
Carrie, it looks so lovely and peaceful.
Dude! Looks awesome girl:) Love having the vish of where you are when we chat. xox

It looks gorgeous!
wow, the bedroom design is great, i really like the decor, its very sober and very artistic
i like the furnishings a lot, they are very cool and very stylish, where did you get the bedroom set from!!
It looks sooo cozy.
I LOVE your new room. The windows are fabulous, and it looks so homey. Your stuff looks like it's just meant to be there! I love the shelves around the windows, too. My husband hates hanging curtains and installing blinds, too.
It looks beautiful!!!
Answering another question about the bedroom:
The bed came from my favorite furniture store in Cincinnati, Verbargs. The dresser is a family heirloom from my husband's grandparents...so I have no idea where it came from! The bench at the end of the bed is from Pottery Barn, about 10 years ago! Hope this helps! :)
Carrie
great decorating. your bedroom is awesome, and I am, sarah, fan of all good decorating ideas :) thanks
Oh wow, you are in my home town area. I live in MS now, so I can appreciate your homesickness. You really have a beautiful view!
There is a favorite place of mine, where I would take our children to. It is the children's discovery museum. Just over the bridge, heading north on 101. Don't forget you need toll coming back into the city though. :o) Here is the link. It really is an awesome place!!! They will love it for sure.

Love the built-ins and the wall color (do you know what it is?)
It looks very relaxing! I've always neglected the master too but this time I/m planning to fix it up first.
Carrie, I just feel like I'm at home when I'm looking through your pictures! I'm starting to think that every single thing you touch turns into something fabulous. I don't know why I ever doubted that before though!
I would also love to know what color your bedroom is painted if you know what it is. I am loving the comfort gray in your kitchen. I have been going back and forth with the comfort gray and a couple of tan tones for our new house. I love it and it actually looks a lot lighter than I thought it might!
Beautiful room! Do you know the paint color in that room?
