Got an Extra Two Million? Yeah, Me Neither.

Back in July, we all went back east for a wedding. One of my husband's best friends got married, and he was the best man. Anyone ever been to Louisville, Kentucky? Beautiful! The wedding was one of those old-fashioned Southern affairs, the kind that started on Wednesday (seriously, with the bachelor party) and didn't end until Sunday with the after-wedding brunch.

Normally I would have been over it. Know what I mean? Five days of wedding activities. Even with my own wedding, I didn't need five days of partying! However, I was greatly aided because all these parties were in a tiny little community of Louisville called Nitta Yuma.

Now, if I just had an extra $2 million lying around to buy this dump (ahem) in Nitta Yuma:

Yep, it's for sale. Needs to be renovated. Sounds like heaven to me! Click here if you feel like seeing more.

Needless to say, I have the renovation bug again! Right now we live in a house that was built in 2007. It's ridiculous that I would want to renovate because, really, there's nothing to renovate. So I kind of invent little projects to keep myself busy. But I think I am realizing that I am, by nature, a fixer and a flipper. Give me something old and ugly and let me bring it back. My husband is not thrilled with this realization on my part, because generally it means a lot of work on his part. And no, we're not planning on moving anytime soon. But when we do, I'll be hoping for a fixer-upper.

What about you? Are you an old or a new house kind of girl?

Whew! Five days of wedding partying would be too much for me too.
That house looks beautiful. There is something so charming about southern homes. Maybe it's because I love wrap around porches with those white rocking chairs on them and beautiful flower beds.
The hubs and I are definitely the fixer upper type and yes, you are so right. I dream up the ideas and get the hubs on board and then he does all the work.

WOW 5 days?!?!

I might be both on the house type! We have lived in some old homes (but not my dream style) and have had to fix them up so I didn't like that as much. I think I would LOVE to have a fixer in the style I like....one of the big old farm style with a big wrap around porch. On the other hand, some of the brand new homes look quite appealing to me so I would probably LOVE having that too!♥

Old house girl here! We're on a 2cd historic home overhaul. Only this time around involves 3 little ones so it's been harder for me to help out like I used to so it puts lots of extra stress on hubby. But we're both just like you-always need a project! We're not even finished with this and he's already wanting to flip our neighbor's house who only had begun talk of moving next year.

I have lived in both, and hands down I am a old house gal.

I love the charm and stories they hold.

I'm kind of in the middle. Not so old that I would worry about it all falling apart, but not so new that I couldn't put my touches on it. Our house is about 20 years old so that fits just right for me.

Oh, and what ever happened to the house next door to you?

Oh yes Louisville, just up the road from me. There are some gorgeous old home there, some beautiful new ones too. Our daughter lives out near Harrods Creek in a huge house. I love the huge lawns and old trees.
Yep that is a southern style wedding. We got one coming up in May next year and we are already partying.

I'm a new house kind of girl. But we did think about buying this one house before the one we live in now and redoing. Then we thought better not.

Hey lady! I do think I love renovating because I like to give my own style to a place. That said, however, I am going to wait until my kids are a little older before we try that sort of thing again...it's just too hard while they are so little. I can't work at the pace I'd like to, and one thing I am NOT is patient. ha ha!

We used to live in Louisville & it is beautiful there.
I'm an old house girl at heart but I have a new house budget. My heart & my budget argue quite frequently.

I always thought I was a new house girl because my dream was to build a dream house and pick every single thing out one day, but I have come to see that home is anywhere you make it, and working on our fixer upper has been so much fun.

Want to come fix my house up? He still needs a lot of love. I think I love both kinds of homes. Older homes generally have so much more character which I am drawn to, but nice clean new homes make mehappy too because they are just more "clean" feeling within them. But, either way, I find there are lots of fun things to do to them!

I am an "old" but after three kids and the need for closets and a mud room...we went new!...houses over a 100 are not meant for soccer cleats, Little Tikes and many bikes!

Um, I'd like to have an old house that somebody else already redid. My dad has spent a lifetime redoing old houses. Currently the house he lives in will be 100 years old next year. He has been working on it for 5 years. All of that renovation chaos is too much for me inspite of the gorgeous outcome.

I'm a little bit of both, I think. I like the feel of the fixed and made beautiful again, but I like the comfort of it all being done if I'm living there. I don't think I could live in a fixer-upper, but sure could fix one THEN move in!

We love being able to see through an older home (so far we haven't had any that are super old) that needs help, ha, and get it looking gorgeous!

An old house kind of a girl. I live in Connecticut, I just don't do new! However, I do not want a total fixer upper. I like a house with charm that is structurally sound. We moved a year ago from a 2100 sq ft 1938 colonial. It was charming and perfect. An addtion had been put on in 1996 so it had old world charm with new home amenities. But it was too small. As was the property. We have moved to a 4500 sq ft house. It is 20 years old. (Which to me is still new.) The floor plan is divine. Nothing else was. We are slowly making our way through it. It will be my perfect home when we are done!

I love my new home - but we will NEVER start over from scratch landscaping a yard again with an HOA breathing down our necks!

Hmmm..I'm in a 1976-er. We bought it because 1) to buy something of comprable size would break the bank, 2) we love the "bones" of this place, 3) it was a fixer-upper! We've done do much remodeling/redecorating; it's fun making this house OURS.

I like an old house with modern amenities! I love the character that older homes have but sometimes remodeling is a must when things aren't functional.

Wow -- that's one beautiful house! Funny -- we've always lived in older homes -- there's always something that needs fixing or replacing. Current house built in 1924! Yikes!! Often find myself wishing for a newer house!

Hope you have a great week!

We bought a fixer-upper almost 7 years ago and it is still a fixer-upper. We have learned our lesson and will never buy a fixer-upper again! We like to paint and do minor projects, but remodeling bathrooms and other big projects is too much for us.

I'm definitely an "old house" kind of gal. When we get out of the Navy in a few years and move back home we want to buy an old home and renovate it. I must say I love the "after" part of the renovating but not so much the the chaos during the middle of it!

I am in between. There are somethings that I want to move into a house and have to fix up and make new or my own, but there are some rooms that I want to be already fixed up for me.

Old house type of gal here... give me a fixer-up anyday!! Bringing back beauty to something old is so much fun, and I think so much more interesting!! :)

That house is GORGEOUS!! I've heard that Louisville is beautiful. I would love to visit there one day!

Hope you're having a great Monday!

p.s. I tagged you for an award on my blog. :)

What a wedding! I love old houses. One of my dreams is to renovate an old victorian home. I lived through a 3 year renovation project (barely) in my current home, but I still dream of my fixer upper with the grand staircase and wide porch...

I would love to have 2 million, but not for a fixer upper. While I don't mind the occasional clever craft that you share with us, renovating an entire house doesn't sound exciting! I leave that for people like you...who can actually do it! I would totally be too lazy.

Wow-5 days is a lot of wedding stuff! Ha! I'm glad it was fun, though!

I am a new house kind of girl...partly because I always seem so busy that I don't feel like I have the time to work on projects!

What a gorgeous house! Unfortunately I'm not the flip it or fix it kind- and can't afford to be the 'hire someone to fix it' kind, either ( : But I can definitely appreciate the potential/character of that house.

Wow! What a fabulous house! I love the character and charm of older houses but I prefer to live in something new!

What a gorgeous home!! I love Louisville and have visited a couple times this past year.....lots of old world southern charm!

If I had to choose, I would pick an older home. Even though I live in a new home, I love the character of the old homes...especially old farmhouses! One day....maybe

I think the grass is always greener, having lived in brand spanking new and now in a charming 20+ yrs house that has needed (to date), new floors, new roof, new heating/cooling systems, new septic (gross) and new kitchen.. We still need to overhaul the landscaping, who knkew landscaping become "dated", reno the bathrooms and all new carpet but the crown mouling in this house, the wainscoating, beams, 2 staircases and 5 bedrooms, a bonus room and a finished basement is wonderful, the house was a steal and has been a lot of work w/ 3 little ones but we have done a lovely job if I don't say so myself!

My house was built in the late 60's. By nature I'm not a fixer upper type of gal. And I really can't wait to get started renovating this house. But, atleast the only hideous item in the house is the green bathtub and green sink in my girls bathroom.

Definitely a new house kinda girl. I'm a perfectionist, so if I knew something was broken, needed fixing, or just wasn't absolutely the way I wanted it -- I'd never get any sleep! I would just have to remodel until everything was perfect!

I love old houses but I live in a contemporary. Go figure --but it is old now and needs a ton of work. Oh well I love it! xoxo

WOW a five day wedding sounds fun..
We have a fixer upper..And slowly fixing things up..But you know I don't think I would buy a new house..they have changed the way of building new homes..very cheap..Here In Ont they will use chipboard and not plywood unless you ask for plywood..Older homes are so much better..I know lots that have newer homes and the things I have seen or heard about ..make me shake my head..Brand new homes leaking in the basements,I would love an old Victorian home...Bluild to last..and beautiful...Just like the photo that you posted...

Uh, what?

I've always loved old houses...but grew up in new ones. My dad and my grandpa designed the last...

Now, I'm living in and restoring a 1910ish farmstyle house and restoring a 1919 Craftsman bungalow for my shop. What is life without projects???
