Candy Corn Cookies

It's still Fall, and although it is seriously hard to resist the adorable Christmas decorations that are popping up everywhere, I am determined to hold out.  Now, don't ask me if I have listened to Christmas music already, because that's a whole different story!  (And yes, I have.  Just a little bit.  Barely enough to count.)

Last week I hosted our monthly book club and it was a great chance to whip up some fall cookies.  However, I wanted to have a pretty little platter to put the cookies on, and alas, I never registered for one when I got married.  But, I had seen how people created cake platters out of a candlestick and a simple plate (I am sorry, I can't remember where I saw this idea, but it has been floating around!).  Here is what I was able to figure out with a $2 glass plate and 88 cent candlestick from Big Lots (along with some super glue):

How cute did it turn out?  It is not perfect, but when you put little cookies on top, no one is looking for the imperfections!  I shamelessly used Tidy Mom's idea to create candy corn cookies, and I think they turned out so well, along with my pumpkin cookies!

All my Halloween decorations and BOO pumpkins have been put away until next year, but I think these simple fall cookies would be charming through Thanksgiving.  And wait till you see what I did last Thanksgiving with a turkey cookie cutter!  We can hold out, girls!  We don't need to put up the Christmas lights just yet!

P.S. I had someone ask me how I made the cake stand.  It was so easy!  I got some super glue (anything that says it is good to use on glass).  I turned the glass plate upside down, found the exact center with a ruler, and then put glue in that spot.  Then I turned the candlestick upside down too, and stuck it to the plate.  That's it!  I gave it a full 24 hours to dry without moving it, and made sure that I cleaned up any drips before they dried.  I wouldn't run this thing through the dishwasher or anything, but it seems pretty sturdy for holding little cookies and cakes!

I love making sugar cookies. I am a fan too of holding out until the day after THANKSGIVING. I use it as time to get shopping down, gifts made, house picked up, and time to be THANKFUL!

Too funny ~ I was listening to Christmas music on Sunday!

I'm trying not to rush through the holidays this year but, to really enjoy them. We'll see how long that actually last :)

Cute Cookies! I have been wanting to make me a pedestal tray also. Yours turned out good. And you are right, it looks great with cookies on it. We worry about too much don't we?

Last year, I decorated for Christmas the weekend before Thanksgiving. I must say that last year I was so relaxed during the Christmas season because everything was decorated and all I had to do was shop and enjoy the decorations.

Christmas music is a different story...no decorations around here until Dec. 1 but music might already be happening! It puts me in a good "planning" mood.

Guilty of the christmas music, but I love it all year!

Neat platter idea!Your pumpkin cookies were great, too. My MIL makes candy corn cookies but she actually tints the cookie dough for each layer. I love the icing idea. Too cute!

The sunset was beautiful in your Halloween Pics...It just looked so Fall.

Love the pedestal stand idea! Adorable cookies, too!

When we lived in Ohio, I bought several handmade cookie cutters from an artisan at the Yankee Peddler Festival. A candy corn cutter was one of them. I've made them every year since for Halloween!

P.S. My Elvis Presley Christmas, Michael Buble and the Chipmunks (for the kids) have been in rotation since the air started to turn crisp here (early October) and I'm not one bit ashamed ( :

I was completely amazed on Saturday and Sunday when I saw several people putting up Cmas lights!

I love your cookies! So cute! I made one of those candlestick plates and saw it from My Romantic Home. So no telling where it originated! :)

Carrie~ I bet your book club gals loved the cookies & the great presentation! It turned out so great!
My hubby is due back in tonight so I'm holding off putting Halloween away until he can trudge down from the attic with the Rubbermaids.
He leaves again in a week and comes home on 24 Nov and goes out again from 1-16 December.
I might just have to have him help me get trees up before Turkey day.
I'm trying to hold out though girl!!!
Happy Tuesday~ Hugs, Les

Hi Miss Carrie, My real name is Jamie :) Thanks for letting me know about the book :) I'm going to see if I can check it out from the Library :) I do sell on ebay & I sell clothing for the whole family. I buy from outlets & I have been able to build relationships with the managers so that they will hold things for me & let me know when a great sell is coming. My goal is to buy things at least 75% off or more & then sell them for right around 50% off retail. If you have any other questions, just ask :) Have a great day :)

My mom always says we must give thanks first! I'm like you and I'm trying my darndest to steer clear of the Christmas decorations and just focus on the now. I love Thanksgiving too...there are so many things to be thankful for. The cookies you made are darling...and I'm totally going to steal the idea of the plate and candlestick! That's brilliant!

Have a great Tuesday!

p.s. I listen to Christmas music all year. ;)

Your cookies are adorable. :) You know, I saw someone make pizza slices that looked like candy corn - they were really cute. they used mozzarella, and 2 other orange-y cheeses. That's what I thought was in your photo when I first saw it. I'm so curious to see what you did with your turkey cookie cutter!

Very darling sugar cookies. I have decided to delete my blog. Just too time consuming...I have felt so free the last few days! Also there was a special on TV about blogs, so also for security reasons. Thanks for all of your help. I will still be visiting your blog! You are too talented! Have a good day.
