The Weekend

Hi everyone! How was your weekend?

Thank you all SO much for your anniversary well wishes! You were all so sweet and genuine in your comments...it still amazes me that we haven't met in person, because I feel like I "know" so many of you, and I really appreciate the community we have here.

I will say this about my anniversary weekend: it was not what I expected! On Friday night the babysitter arrived, and in the chaos of letting her in the house and going over all the details, I let the dog out. This dog:

...who then proceeded to wander the neighborhood, eventually getting picked up by someone and dropped at a local dog shelter, where we didn't find him until the next morning. So our anniversary dinner at the fancy new restaurant was spent staring across the table at each other, imagining our dog dead in a ditch. Romantic, huh?

In other weekend events, Henry had his first taste of rice cereal. I love the photo above. He looks like he's saying "Mama, what IS this crap?" But he eventually came around!

Lastly, I snagged a few minutes for this little project below. I have a strange thing about topiaries. Other people gravitate towards shoes, or purses, or chocolate. Me? Topiaries. Weird. I picked this one up last weekend at Goodwill:

I liked the height, but didn't like the greenery. In person it looked really fake. And the pot wasn't doing much for me either. So I clipped all the old greenery and bought some new (fake) stuff at Michael's. Using some floral wire and my glue gun, I attached the new greenery to the top. Then just popped it into a new terra cotta pot.

Much better, don't you think? The best part was when I went to Lowe's to buy the pot. I brought the new topiary with me so I could test it out, and someone asked me "Is that plant hard to maintain?" To which I replied, "Well, it's fake, so...No." Love it!

More projects to come...everything's half-finished! Motivation, where art thou?

OMG I can only imagine how you must have been so worried about your dog.

Great Goodwill find!

Henry is so cute! There's nothing like that first taste of "real" food...if rice cereal can even be called that. ;)

That's great that you got your dog back!

I'm so glad you found your pup! what a cutie!! I hope your anniversary celebration wasn't a total wash. My 11th anniversary was Saturday and guess what we did to celebrate? Took two kids on a two-hour tour through Mammoth Cave. And then we had dinner at Cracker Barrel with the two kiddos before we made the long drive home. Isn't that romantic! lol! Oh well, it was fun!

Oh my that’s not fun but the good news is that he’s home safe and sound. I dog sat for a friend over the Christmas holiday last year. She has outside dogs so I just went over to check on them Christmas morning and noticed that one was missing. It was the worst feeling! We drove around the neighborhood looking for him, I tried to call around and find him at the dog shelters but they were all closed. I kept imaging the phone call I would have to make! Ahh it was the worst. I didn’t want to leave without finding him so we just kept driving around and finally found him. I missed Christmas lunch and my Dad’s house and made it to the tail end of everyone opening their presents but I was sooo happy that we found him and I didn’t have to call and ruin my friends Christmas.

Ugh. Dogs. We recently had a very similar scare but we were dog babysitting and he got away! Could hardly sleep that night; however, it was NOT on my anniversary. Sorry you had to deal with that but so glad your little rascal pooch is okay. BTW-your topiary looks great!

Oh that is sooo funny about the plant! That cracked me up... I would have been smiling all the way home.

Glad to hear that your dog was safe and sound.... not a fun way to spend a romantic dinner.

Oh - anniversaries are funny. We always celebrate them when we get to them. Sometimes it's a whole month before we get out. I love topiaries, too. I've been going back and forth at the ones at our Costco lately.

I am addicted to topiaries as well! I am so glad you found your dog. That is such a cute picture!

Your dog is so cute and I'm so glad you found him. We have many weekends that have gone something like that. You are right...you can't be romantic when your puppy is missing.

Henry's face is adorable. I remember feeding broccoli and rice to my son the first time. It's one of my favorite dishes...oh but not his! Have you tasted that baby food though? Um, it tastes like crap!

So glad that you found your dog, but what a bummer that you had to spend your anniversary dinner worrying about him.

That is hysterical that someone asked you if your "fake" plant was hard to keep alive. You must have done a fab job of making it looking real! I really like topiaries too. I need to add one in our home!

Oh, Carrie! I've had that happen with one of my pups before. We were getting ready for a date night. I had make-up and hair done and was getting dressed. Mr. let Duke out but Duke decided to dig out of our fence and go in the marsh out past the fence. We searched for hours, didn't go on our date, ended up finding him snake bit and having to rush him to the emergency room where he stayed for a week in ICU (but did live!). Your story ended much better!

On the project front...sister, I hear ya!

I'm so glad you found your sweet dog! I know all too well the pain and distraction of worrying about a beloved missing pet. Hope you had a happy anniversary anyway, though!

Your Henry is so precious. His expressions with the cereal are darling. I can't believe how big he's gotten already!

Oh, I am so glad to hear that you found your sweet puppy! He is SO adorable! And speaking of adorable, your little boy is! It brings back memories of introducing my kids to a new baby food. They would get the most horrified looks on their faces with some foods and sometimes (like with carrots) we never did get beyond the "yuck!" stage! :)

I love the topiary you fixed up, and what a complement that someone thought it was real! You can't beat that! :)

A few weeks ago we thought one of the cats got out -- hubby was outside for an hour, I looked in every crevice of this house. Finally I was bawling, it was raining out, I thought he was gone forever. Then we hear a little peep on the monitor and turns out the little poop was in our son's room all along. ARGH! Anyway, love this and LOVE that lamp too!!
