Christmas Card Wall Pocket

Continuing on with my thrift store theme, I wanted to show you something else I made recently!  I have been needing a place to put Christmas cards that we receive, and found this little wall pocket for just a few dollars.

I removed the handle, spray painted the whole thing red, and then went to work on the details.

I think it turned out well!  I found the tree stencil online and printed it out on my computer.  Then I traced it onto the front of the wall pocket and painted it with a tiny brush, freehand.  Then just added a few little dots and a cute grosgrain ribbon on the top of the tree.  I love the colors!

Now we have a place to put all those great Christmas cards that will soon start rolling in!

(P.S. If you are someone who has already sent out your Christmas cards, please don't tell me about it.  I am impressed, but also intimidated by you!)

  2. Let me put your mind at ease: I'm not even sending cards out this year. I KNOW! I'm a slacker. And I LOVE the holder. Can you make me one? I'd seriously pay you for that (or one similar). Just a thought... ;) And, I literally laughed out loud when I read your comment last night on our blog about the tree "in our house." Too funny!

  3. Your vision amazes me...that card holder is just too cute! I'm still trying to get a picture for our Christmas card...when they are small you can't get them to sit still, when they are teens you can't get them all home at the same time!

  6. I have on of these too! Love the whole idea of having a place to keep all the Christmas cards together.

I'm another one whose cards haven't even been started yet. :( I guess I should finish getting the tree up before I start another project!

  8. Love the colors you chose, especially the polkadots! I still haven't even decided if I'm going to send out cards this year. I really don't like not doing it but I've been trying to not spend any extra money so the girls can get more Santa gifts;)

As for the cards, I'm right there with you. I just haven't had the time to get them out. Now we're going away again this weekend, so I'll probably have to take them with me and finish them on the road. I'll be sure to add a "Happy New Year"...just in case they're REALLY late ☺

  23. Ever since you shared your take out menu holder, I've been wanting to do this, but now this is even cuter!! I'm going to have to take lessons from you on how to have "the eye" while at thrift shores. Your revamps are always so amazing!

Did I ever tell you that I gave you an award? I'm not sure I did, but here it is:

  35. Another great rehab! I have a wall pocket that I have used for a while that I found at a thrift store, too. Fortunately, it's the perfect shade of green: works well for all seasons and all holidays, indoors and out. I think it was $2. Gotta love that!

I'm very impressed with your freehand painting skillz!

And yes, I did cook hubs dinner that night! I boiled some pasta, tossed in some special fancy sauce and heated up french bread. That counts, doesn't it?!

  40. Cute & adorable, Carrie! I love that repurposed thing, you really upped the cuteness factor a lot. I'm not one of those people either. I have good intentions of sending out some cards every year & usually fail at that totally!
