Buffalo Check? Check!

I can tell you exactly how many Hobby Lobby stores are in a 50 mile radius of my house.  (There are 13.)  The people there are all very nice.  How do I know?  Because I called each of them yesterday on a mad hunt for the buffalo check fabric I posted about the other day.  And guess what?

I am now the proud owner of 11 yards of buffalo checks!  I officially needed 12 yards, but am hopeful I can make it work.  I also have my mom on the hunt in Ohio, so maybe she will get lucky.  The best part?  Hello, clearance sale!  $7 a yard, my friends, marked down from $24.99!  No wonder this stuff was hard to find!

Now my next step (and I say this with a huge intake of breath and lots of trepidation) is to call my local sewing machine store and actually schedule a lesson so that I can make these curtains.  Don't laugh, I am serious!  OK, you can laugh a little.  It is kind of bizarre to imagine me behind a sewing machine, no glue gun in sight.

Thank you to all of you who made helpful suggestions and even offered to check your local stores for me.  Talk about nice!  And now I am off to...wait for it...read my sewing machine instructions.  Seriously, don't laugh!

  16. I'm so glad you found the fabric. I've got my daughter running to another Hobby Lobby to see if they have any for me and Twin. I've decided to put it in my breakfast room also if I can find more. Then Twin decided to get some for when her remodel is done. When I found my first 5 yards the sales lady told me they would be reducing it further in May, by about 20% but there was only about 3 yards left of it there. I hope I can get more and at $7.00 a yard you got yourself a deal!!

  18. I shall be keeping a close eye on your sewing experiences! I talked with my mother-in-law, who can sew beautifully and she offered to teach me. I'm a little nervous, but I'd like to give it a try!

That is how I learned to sew. I took a class at a local sewing store. It was fun and they taught me how to use my machine.
    Good luck and happy sewing!!!

  21. Glad you found the fabric - especially on sale!!! I'm all about being able to "stretch" fabric. Email me if you have any questions. I use to work for a custom window treatment place.

I'm seeking bedroom advice! Would love your input!

  31. Wow! $7 a yard. Meant to be.

I can teach you to sew curtains. That's the benefit of not taking any advanced classes in HS and instead taking two years of Sewing!!! I had a great teacher!

  32. Everyone in Blog-Land talks about Hobby Lobby...but we dont' have one in Orlando. I'm so jealous of all the deals!
I love the buffalo check and I can't wait to see the curtains.
I'm having a chalkboard party next week on my blog if you're interested:)

  33. Yay for finding your fabric! Good luck with that sewing machine manual. I am absolutely no help and have no right to laugh. I am horrible with the sewing maching. I attmepted to make a pair of pants one time and the length from the waist to the crotch ended up longer than the length of the legs...they were hideous. My husband still finds that so humurous...like cry until you laugh humurous.

Maybe I need to find me a sewing class to attend?

    Good luck with your curtains!

  34. Do you believe I have never been into a Hobby Lobby? We don't have any around here. We have Michaels and AC Moore. Clearance is my favorite thing in America. Oh my goodness, I love it SO much!

  37. I'm glad you found your fabric! I definitely know the feeling of being on "the hunt!" And finding it at a good discount makes the find even better! Can't wait to see your finished curtains! You can definitely do it. Sewing isn't all that hard!

  38. I'm so glad this worked out for you! I am extremely sewing-machine-challenged, so I take my hat off to you for your bravery. :)

    I hope it's going well!

  39. Congrats on finding the fabric. We don't have a HL in my part of Florida.

  40. I'm so jealous that there are 13 hobby lobbys within a 50 mile radius of you. I have none within my 50 mile radius. :(

I'm am glad for you that you found it though!

  41. I am so jealous!!

I love living in a small town, but I am 35 minutes from the nearest Hobby Lobby. And when I go, I have to drag three kids with me which takes a lot of the fun out of it!
